The Creative Arts division is the heartbeat of our mission, dedicated to empowering children and youth through the transformative power of artistic expression. We provide opportunities for young individuals to explore and grow their talents in drama, dance, music, visual arts, public speaking, and sign language. Through these creative artforms, we strive to nurture self-confidence, ignite imagination, and foster qualities such as self-awareness, discipline, creativity, and a strong sense of purpose in every child we support.
Our creative arts classes run from every Thursday to Saturday afterschool.
In partnership with the I AM HOME Foundation, our family education pillar is dedicated to empowering families through a variety of programs and resources aimed at fostering holistic development. Their initiatives include the Father Heart Programme, Family Wellness Programme, Relationships for Life,Home Education Support, and the Wealth Legacy Challenge. Their overarching goal is to resource families, enabling them to thrive and contribute positively to their communities.
In response to the growing need within our community for academic support, KUCA has expanded its offerings beyond creative arts to provide comprehensive homework assistance across all subjects for learners in Grades 1 to 9.
"My name is Letlhogonolo Patience Masongwa, and I am a proud alumni of Khula Unqobe Creative Arts. I joined the organization in 2018, first as a student, and later had the privilege of becoming a facilitator. The skills and experiences I gained during my time with the program have shaped me into the person I am today. I am currently in my second year at Northwest University, and I still apply everything I learned from Khula Unqobe Creative Arts in my academic journey. From the workshops to the hands-on facilitation experience, every moment contributed to my growth.
I was exposed to various artforms, including visual arts, dance, and drama. We were given the opportunity to explore and participate in all of them, which helped me grow both artistically and personally. Performing on stage helped me build confidence and step out of my comfort zone. One of the most memorable moments for me was being approached by a casting agent who had seen me perform and believed in my potential. That opportunity would not have been possible if it weren’t for Khula Unqobe Creative Arts.
As a facilitator, I also participated in team-building workshops that helped me develop strong communication skills. Working with diverse personalities taught me how to understand people better and build meaningful connections, something I now apply daily in both academic and social settings.
One workshop that stood out for me was on artificial intelligence. It taught us how to use AI responsibly and effectively, how to communicate clearly with it, and give it proper instructions. As a university student, this knowledge has been incredibly useful, as AI plays a big role in how we study and complete assignments.
In my facilitator role, I focused on literature and contributed to the organization’s marketing. This gave me hands-on experience in social media marketing and taught me how to promote programs and events online, a valuable skill that continues to benefit me.
I also learned how to do presentations, plan and deliver educational content, and write detailed reports. These skills have made my university life much easier, especially during laboratory work where report writing is essential.
I am deeply grateful to Khula Unqobe Creative Arts for investing in me. The journey has been inspiring, empowering, and transformative. I highly recommend this program to any young person who wants to grow not only as an artist or educator but also as a confident, capable leader."
"Being part of Khula Unqobe Creative Arts (KUCA) has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I joined KUCA in 2019-2022 with a passion for drama but had no idea how much it would impact my confidence, creativity and communication skills.
From day one, the environment was welcoming, supportive and inspiring. I learned not just the fundamentals of acting and stagecraft, but also how to express myself authentically and work collaboratively with people from all walks of life. Through rehearsals and performances, I developed skills in public speaking, time management and problem-solving. I used the leadership skills I gained from KUCA and implemented them as the Deputy Head girl of Culture at my school. These skills have helped me well beyond the stage.
One of the most meaningful aspects of my experience was the sense of community. Everyone, from the facilitators to the students, was committed to creating a safe space where every voice mattered. We tackled important themes, explored diverse stories and challenged ourselves to grow artistically and personally.
Thanks to KUCA, I now have the confidence to pursue opportunities I once thought were out of reach. Whether I continue in the arts or apply these skills elsewhere, I know the lessons I've learned here will stay with me for life. I would wholeheartedly recommend Khula Unqobe Creative Arts to anyone looking to grow, express themselves and be part of something truly special."
